A Day in the Life of an Interior Designer & Business Owner

No two days in the life of an interior designer are the same—but they always start with coffee, creativity, and a trusty to-do list!

In today’s video, I’m giving you a behind-the-scenes look at what a busy day looks like as both an interior designer and small business owner. With lots of projects in motion, time management is key—so I start the day by checking meeting times and making sure every task is added to my digital calendar. I use a smart scheduling tool that auto-plans my day based on availability, which helps me stay focused and efficient as I move from one task to the next.

One of the first highlights of the day was receiving a Material Bank delivery for a new project we're calling Farmhouse Nouveau. This one’s going to be a beautiful blend of rustic charm and modern elegance, and I love the excitement of reviewing new materials—it’s like unwrapping a present that sparks the creative process.

Next up, I had a conference call with a business coach who specializes in supporting interior designers. Running a design firm means wearing a lot of hats—creative director, project manager, and CEO—and these check-ins help ensure the business side of things runs as smoothly as our client installs.

Midday, I met up with the lovely Sabrina from Studio OB at a local coffee shop. Our chats are always a perfect mix of brainstorming, support, and laughter. Collaborating with other designers is such a rewarding part of this industry—we share ideas, business advice, and encourage each other to keep pushing creative boundaries.

To wrap up the day, we visited the Bover and Resol showroom—and wow, those lighting fixtures had me swooning. I’m especially obsessed with the oversized designs we spotted. There’s nothing like seeing pieces in person to get inspired and imagine how they’ll bring a space to life.

While every day brings something new, the magic always lies in the mix: staying organized, nurturing relationships, and staying open to inspiration wherever it shows up.

Thanks for coming along on this little journey with me! Whether you're a fellow designer, a design-lover, or just curious about what goes on behind the scenes—I'm glad you’re here!
