That’s Her Story: The Swan House

Exploring the History of Interior Design at the Swan House

Last week, I had the privilege of attending a captivating CEU course hosted by Milliken, delving into the history of the interior design profession and the pioneering women who shaped the industry during the 1920s and 1930s. This fascinating session shed light on the trailblazing figures who defined a new era of design, blending innovation with timeless elegance.

The day only got better as we embarked on a private tour of the iconic Swan House in Atlanta, a masterpiece designed by the brilliant Ruby Ross Wood for the Inman family. Walking through the halls of this historic home was like stepping into a bygone era of luxury and refined taste. Every detail, from the sweeping staircase to the intricate moldings and the perfectly curated furnishings, showcased Ruby Ross Wood’s impeccable eye for design and her ability to create spaces that felt both grand and welcoming.

One of the highlights for me was discovering how Wood’s approach to design married classic European influences with modern sensibilities, creating a timeless aesthetic that still feels relevant today. It was a powerful reminder of how much these early pioneers have influenced the way we think about interior spaces.

A heartfelt thank you to Milliken for hosting such a meaningful event and inspiring us to explore the roots of our profession. The day was a beautiful blend of learning and experiencing the legacy of design firsthand!
